I just can't seem to think (or find on the forums) on how to keep all the upper cabinet lights on one switch without running romex through the walls. The LED strip would then need to be wired to another 12/2 wire that goes behind the wall to feed the other section of the cabinets.īasically, think of a long strip of LED low voltage lights with a 15 foot length of 12/2 romex in the middle, connected with wing nuts (plus to hot, negative to neutral) Then the transformer is wired directly to the first LED strip. Then the 12/2 continues from the switch, behind the wall, up to a transformer on top of a section of cabinets. To give a better description, I have a 20 amp circuit feeding a dimmer switch with 12/2 romex. My question is - can I use the 12/2 romex in between the LED strips? and how would I connect the LED wire (+ and -) to the hot and neutral romex? I've recently installed new cabinets in my kitchen and would like to put new low voltage lighting above the cabinets in two sections. That's my only known surprise up in the ceiling I'll have to fish wire around somehow.Īny thoughts for this rookie would be greatly appecicated! There is one 8 feet from the bottom wall that I'll have to pass wire past. The joists are 16" on center from left to right (parallel with the fireplace wall). ** Note, I've attached a couple drawings with some possible thoughts, including the room's layout. If I want to accent the fireplace with 2 directional lights - does this change the general lighting in the room?ĭoes placement of the TV matter? Is there a way to avoid general reflections off the TV? What size of fixture should I use? 6-inch sounds like it is pretty standard? What is correct? I assume my LED recessed lights will be 650 lumens. How much light do I need? I have read online recommendations of 10-50 foot candles (lumens per sq. It'd be great if I could use those same circuits so I don't have to rip into the wall to fish line through the header beams. The fan is located in the center of the room with 2 switches (one for the fan - one for the lights). We'd like to accent the fireplace somehow. We are renovating the room which includes updating the fireplace with a new mantel/surround, moving the TV to the left wall, and removing a single 4-bulb fan/lighting fixture and replacing it with recessed lighting. I am new to the lighting world and am trying to make sense of my research.
